Plant for Life

Generating Social Impact

Under the approach of University Social Responsibility and within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, our University has the Social Interaction Project “PLANT FOR LIFE”, which is part of our Environment Program, aimed at consolidating small fruit orchards in Reception Centers for children and adolescents in vulnerable situations.

The “PLANT FOR LIFE” project provides different benefits such as:

Affective commitment in favor of the environment

Establish small effective commitments in favor of the environment based on awareness and action with students of the Universidad Privada Abierta Latinoamericana as part of the comprehensive training process, with the participation of the population of the reception centers.

Favorable condition generators

Generate favorable conditions for food security, healthy eating and production for self-consumption, of vulnerable populations and those in a situation of social and economic disadvantage.

Tradition and productive vocation

Contribute to the recovery of the productive vocation of Cochabamba and the tradition of fruit orchards.

University Social Responsibility

Contribute to the role of University Social Responsibility in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

After a pilot experience in October 2020 and first replications in April 2022, we have managed to reach 4 Shelter Centers for children and adolescents: “Zapatito” Home, “Creamos” Association, “Lluvia de Ángeles” Home ” and Hogar “La Casa de los Niños, reaching a beneficiary population of more than:

350 people

among children, adolescents and, to a lesser extent, young people

Implanting in the first stage 50 fruit trees of different varieties such as apple, peach, plum, avocado, orange, lemon, cherimoya, tumbo, passion fruit and blackberry, calling the participation of more than 100 of our students from the following careers: Biochemistry and pharmacy, Dentistry, Medicine, Psychology, Social Communication and students of careers in the business area.

During each visit our students become active beings in the planting process, along with children and adolescents from each center. Our students also carry out recreational educational activities aimed at caring for the environment, cooperation and creativity, among others. Each visit is also an opportunity for solidarity based on shared moments and the delivery of personal hygiene products, food, clothing and toys as a result of voluntary contributions.

An Added Value to the Community

The “Plant for Life” Project is a unique reference in our environment, which accompanies the construction of environments with human beings with hope and commitment.
