About Us

Our History

The Universidad Privada Abierta Latinoamericana (UPAL) is a Higher Education Institution, part of a non-profit civil entity, founded on January 11, 1990.
In 1995, it began its academic activities at the América Campus in the city of Cochabamba, and in April 1999, it started operations in the city of Oruro.
On November 28, 2011, the Presidency of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, through Supreme Decree No. 1085, ratified the authorization for the opening and operation of the Universidad Privada Abierta Latinoamericana – UPAL.

In 2017, UPAL expanded its academic offering with degree programs in business and legal fields. In February of the same year, it obtained certification of its Quality Management System based on the NB/ISO 9001:2008 standard with the certifying body TUV Rheinland for academic and administrative processes at the Cochabamba headquarters and Oruro branch. Thanks to the work and commitment of all staff and senior management, certification was successfully achieved in June 2018 under the updated NB/ISO 9001:2015 version.

UPAL’s senior management has defined the following quality policy:

“UPAL is committed to training competent professionals, ensuring the satisfaction of the university community and meeting the requirements and expectations of its stakeholders, through the Quality Management System and the continuous improvement of its academic and administrative management processes.”

To achieve this quality policy, the following objectives are established:

Vision

To be a nationally and internationally accredited university recognized for its excellence in educational services, oriented toward scientific practice, supported by outreach, dissemination, social research, and relevant academic processes. To train competent professionals in balance with themselves and their environment, who contribute to the development of society.

Purpose

UPAL’s purpose is to educate human beings in balance with themselves and their environment—people who evolve and adapt to a dynamic world and inspire change toward a better world.

América Campus | Cochabamba

We are deeply excited to continue offering our academic excellence in this building. This place is very important to us, as it is where our dream began more than twenty years ago. UPAL began in what was at that time a repurposed home. Even today, this campus preserves the spirit that gave us life.

Soria Galvarro Campus | Oruro

Oruro is one of the cities with the highest level of admiration, respect, and affection for its local culture. It is an example of perseverance, dedication, and passion. Our Soria Galvarro Campus demonstrates the drive of the people of Oruro thanks to uninterrupted growth for over a decade, resulting today in an exemplary building for the city.
